PARK(ING) DAY IS SEPTEMBER 18, 2020

PARK(ing) Day 2020: Due to the City's Events Moratorium through February 2021, we will not be organizing as usual—no online map, no official printable map, no end-of-day celebration, no Golden Cone Awards. Even if we don’t organize, we hope the community can reflect on the roots of this worldwide event and celebrate public spaces on Friday, September 18, 2020 in the best way you know how. Please share your public space praises with us by tagging us @parkingdayphila or using #PARKingDayPHL. We will be sharing on social media our archive of parklets of the past thirteen years to celebrate. We look forward to more public spaces and celebrating together—Friday, September 17, 2021!

The number of parks throughout Philadelphia increases dramatically each year on the third Friday in September, when activists, artists, architects, and other citizens transform metered parking spaces into temporary public parks. Known as PARKing) Day, this annual event re-imagines the possibilities of 160 square feet of public space. The event celebrates parks and other public spaces in cities across the country, and raises awareness of the need for more pedestrian-friendly spaces in our urban areas.

PARK(ing) Day was founded by Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, in 2005 to raise awareness of the need for green spaces in urban environments. Philadelphia celebrated PARK(ing) Day for the first time in 2008 with over 25 installations for relaxing, cycling, creating art, education, and socializing.

2020 Sign-ups are closed and will not be granted

due to the City's regulation on events during the pandemic.
